Anushka Sharma in fresh trouble as ‘Pataal lok’ generates controversy due to its alleged racist remarks against the Nepali community. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has received the complaint. Filed by the All Arunachal Pradesh Gorkha Youth Association on May 18.

Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh’s youth wing is also running a campaign as reported by NDTV. In their campaign they are looking to force the makers to mute the racist dialogue and reupload the subtitles with a disclaimer.

The online petition started by Namrata Sharma describes the slur used in the scene as derogatory to the Khasi Community. Further the president of the Bharatiya Gorkha Yuva Parisangh said “Such stereotyping not only maligns the community as a whole but normalizes such racism as a standard practice for the people. It sets a distorted image among people regarding a certain community, the brunt of which, the people living there have to face.”

Viren Sri Gurung, a member of the lawyers guild had earlier sent a legal notice too and had described the word as hurtful to the Nepali community’s sentiments. No response on this issue is given by the producer, Anushka Sharma up until now.
