A special court in Jaipur is expected to decide today that if the crew of the movie ‘Padmavati‘ should be prosecuted after a petitioner alleged that the director Sanjay Leela Bhansali has chosen a very controversial topic to stoke trouble. Bhawani Shankar Sharma, a social worker, has filed a complaint in the court by making an allegation against the filmmaker and the Censor Board for not acting when the trailer got released.

The movie ‘Padmavati’ is made on a Rajput queen Rani Padmini who chose to kill herself rather than surrendering herself in front of the Muslim sultan of Delhi, Allaudin Khilji. However, the historians are divided over the fact that whether the queen ever even existed.

Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s movie ‘Padmavati’ has been in trouble since the makers of the movie have started shooting for the movie earlier this year. This has been followed by the violent protests by a Rajasthan-based Rajput group, Shri Rajput Karni Sena. The group members have also issued death threats against lead actress Deepika Padukone and director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Last week political pressure rose and there were multiple BJP-ruled states who have asked them for the removal of the objectionable part of the movie just to avoid offending the sentiments of any community.

On Wednesday, Jaipur court heard Sharma’s lawyer and they have deferred the order for a day. Bhawani Shankar Sharma’s lawyer Farid Khan said that the judge wanted to know that how the movie makers have hurt the sentiments of the complaint and moreover he says that what is the use of another complaint if already there were other complaints and petitions on the movie which are already being heard.

On this lawyer, Farid Khan said that the movie does not just concern with the Rajput community but it also a matter of Indian History and he very well knows that there is already a complaint, but as a citizen of India his client has a right to file a complaint. The complaints say that the makers of the movie are criminals because they have made the movie with the vested interests.

Rani Padmavati is worshipped by a whole community and there is a major fair that has been organized every year in  Chittorgarh just in the honor of the queen Rani Padmini. However, they wanted an investigation into the complaint under the sections 156(3) of CrPC, and the order on which is likely to be passed by the court today.
