‘Parasite’ billed as the Best Film at the AACTA International Awards

The ninth annual Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) has named Bong Joon-ho’s South Korean black comedy thriller film Parasite as the Best Film of the year, according to Variety.

Quentin Tarantino’s period drama Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was the top winner at the ceremony, winning in two of the five categories it was nominated — best direction for Tarantino and best supporting actor for Brad Pitt.

The award ceremony has honoured performances in seven different categories across the globe including Best Film, Best Direction, Best Screenplay, Best Lead Actor, Best Lead Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress.

Adam Driver won the Best Actor award for Noah Baumbach’s Marriage Story, while Saoirse Ronan took home the Best Actress award for her role in Greta Gerwig’s period comedy film Little Women.

Taika Waititi was awarded with the Best Screenplay for his directorial venture, the comedy flick Jojo Rabbit. Australian actress Margot Robbie was bestowed with the Best Supporting Actress award for Jay Roach’s Bombshell. She was also nominated for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

Martin Scorsese’s mob drama The Irishman received the most number of nominations, six nods. But it failed to win in any category.
