The trailer of the upcoming film Pati Patni Aur Woh created a lot of buzz on the social media after its release yesterday. While many found the trailer hilarious, some perceived it as having sexist elements. A number of people felt uncomfortable when Kartik Aaryan’s character speaks about marital rape in a trivial manner almost joking about it.

While the makers have been trying to clarify that the film is not a crass comedy, the lead actress of the film Bhumi Pednekar also came out supporting them. Defending the film, she also made it clear that their upcoming film is not a sexist baseless film.

Speaking at the trailer launch event, Bhumi said, “When I read the script, every doubt that I had was flushed out. This is a film that has a lot of fun. It is a situational comedy but at the same time it is not frivolous. It is very empowering to both the genders. There is nobody who is black or white in real life as well. The makers have been very conscious to make sure that they do not turn this into a sexist baseless film. Any of us who is a part of this film does not belong to that school.”

She further added, “The moment I read it I was like it was beautiful. That is what excited me the most about this film that this could go wrong so easily but the makers have been so sensitive and careful and it is a very big achievement.”

Directed by Mudassar Aziz and produced by Renu Ravi Chopra, Patni Patni Aur Woh is a remake of the 1978 film of same name. The film stars Kartik Aaryan, Bhumi Pednekar and Ananya Panday in the main lead and Aparshakti Khurrana in supporting role. The film is slated to release on 6 December.
