Irish-American actor Pierce Brosnan is all set to join the cast of the musical comedy film Cinderella for Sony, according to a report by The Hollywood Reporter.
The former James Bond actor will be seen playing the role of Prince Robert’s father in the retelling of the classic folk tale which has been previously adapted into live action as well as animated film. It’s most recent adaptation was in 2015 by Kenneth Branagh, which had Lily James playing the eponymous role
Cuban-American singer Camila Cabello is set to play the title character of the princess, while Nicholas Galitzine will be seen as Prince Robert. Billy Porter will portray the fairy godmother and Idina Menzel will play the evil stepmother.
Kay Cannon, who is known for writing and directing the Pitch Perfect series, will be directing the Cinderella remake which will be set in the contemporary time and will follow the title character, who is an ambitious young woman with big dreams.
The film will be produced by James Corden and Leo Pearlman, under their banner Fulwell 73 and Jonathan Kadin and Shannon McIntosh.
Brosnan is familiar with the musical genre, having acted in the Mamma Mia! films. He will be next seen in the adventure fantasy The King’s Daughter, the action heist film The Misfits and the horror film False Positive.
