Was once asked not to join a cast as I was too ethnic: Priyanka Chopra!

An Indian actress Priyanka Chopra says that she was once asked not to join the project because of her ethnic look, but later when she got a chance to work in the US and she took the opportunity and she broke the ceiling for the other actors as well.

Recently, Priyanka Chopra was invited as a guest at the Toronto International Film Festival and in the conversation with the director Cameron Bailey she spoke about her career as a Bollywood celebrity before entering into the Hollywood television series ‘Quantico’ and the movie ‘Baywatch’.

About this Priyanka Chopra says, “When the opportunity came my way. Once I was asked not to be a part of a cast because I was too ethnic… I didn’t realize how hard it was until I came to North America.”

About her role in the famous television series ‘Quantico’, she says, “My role in ‘Quantico’ was not written for an Indian girl,” she said, also adding: “I’ve had people take away films from me because I might not have agreed with them.”

Toronto International Film Festival, which is now in its 42nd year has been kicked off. The main motive of TIFF’s new campaign is to increase the opportunities for the woman behind and in front of the camera. Priyanka says that it is just not easy for a woman to come into entertainment. Priyanka says, “You’ve got to pull your socks up for a fight.”

Moreover, she added, “No one’s going to hand it out to you, whether it’s credit, whether it’s parts, whether it is the ability to make movies,” she said, pointing to “Wonder Woman” director Patty Jenkins, the first female director for a studio superhero movie. You can understand how hard and few and far between these opportunities are. But it’s got to take people like us to stand out there, dig our heels in and say we’re not going to stand for it anymore.”
