No director in the world is as popular and polarized as Quentin Tarantino is. The man has made movies that are larger than life and often controversial. Though his films are a treat to the eyes, which everyone can agree with. He is a true cinema great but it looks like he is going to dedicate his time to another creative endeavor now.

His next projects are not films. Instead, the director is going to write 2 books as part of his deal with Harper. Out of the 2 books, one is the novel on his last year’s release Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood. The novel version of the film will contain a different story, with surprisingly different elements from the film.

As per Harper the Once Upon A Time’s novel version will be – Once Upon a Time will be a true Tarantino production: The book will come out first as a mass market paperback, like the old pulp novels the filmmaker loves and will offer “a fresh, playful and shocking departure from the film.”

Tarantino’s 9th film, Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood was released last year and starred Leonardo Dicaprio, Brad Pitt, and Margot Robbie in the leads. The film received 10 Oscar nominations, winning 2. It was set in 1969 Los Angeles, the same time when Charles Manson’s followers killed several people including the late actress Sharon Tate.

A statement on Tuesday was released by Tarantino. It read :

“In the ’70s movie novelizations were the first adult books I grew up reading, and to this day I have a tremendous amount of affection for the genre. So as a movie-novelization aficionado, I’m proud to announce Once Upon a Time … In Hollywood as my contribution to this often marginalized, yet beloved sub-genre in literature.

On the other hand, the director is writing his second book as a work of nonfiction. Titled Cinema Speculation, the book is going to be a deep dive into the movies of the 1970s.

Further Harper Collins described the book as :

“The book will be a rich mix of essays, reviews, personal writing, and tantalizing “what if’s,” from one of cinema’s most celebrated filmmakers, and its most devoted fan.”

It is not known, when the book will release. While the Once Upon A Time… the novel is coming out next summer.

Maybe, Quentin Tarantino will not direct any more films. The director had earlier stated that he will retire after directing 10 films. Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood was his 9th feature but in Tarantino’s case, you never know what he will do.

In am interview last year with GQ Australia, he had said :

“I think when it comes to theatrical movies, I’ve come to the end of the road, I see myself writing film books and starting to write theater, so I’ll still be creative. I just think I’ve given all I have to give to movies.”

This can be a signal for the director leaving the directorial chair and taking on the role of a writer. His avid knowledge and experience in cinema are truly going to give the readers a new perspective on films and their making.

Let’s see what the creative genius has in store for us with his books. Till then keep reading The Indian Wire for more news related to the world of entertainment.
