Madhavan's transformation for Nambi Narayanan biopic

Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, a multi-lingual biopic on the brilliant ISRO scientist, Nambi Narayanan. India’s space story wouldn’t have been the same without the VIKAS engine he designed to launch rockets with a 100 percent success rate. But Nambi was also the scientist who was framed as a spy, incarcerated, tortured and finally released by a vigilante justice system. This film also marks the directional debut of R Madhavan, who joined Ananth Mahadevan in directing the venture.

For this film, Madhavan underwent a drastic transformation to get into the skin of ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan. In a photo that has surfaced from the sets, the actor looks unrecognizable, in his new greyed avatar.

Talking about his look and getting into character, Madhavan said, “The process took painfully long… about 2 days of sitting on a chair for 14 hours at a stretch. Initially, it looked easy but later I realized how tough it was on the body. The look is definitely half the battle won but the other half was really really tough because the age group I’m playing is around 70-75. Mr. Nambi is a very good looking man and he has got his own charm and charisma so it took me around 2 and a half years to actually imbibe him and learn how to walk like him. It wasn’t easy and it’s probably one of the toughest looks and characters I’ve had to pull off”.

If you find Madhavan’s uncanny resemblance to the scientist, you are not the only one. The actor revealed that Nambi himself couldn’t stop laughing and getting amused by Maddy’s look and how similar they looked.

The film has been shot extensively across India, Princeton, Scotland, France, and Russia. The film is slated for a worldwide release this year.
