‘Petta‘ has become Rajinikanth’s fourth movie to cross 200 crore mark worldwide after ‘2.0′, ‘Enthiran’, and ‘Kabali’. With this, the superstar has emerged as the only South Indian star to have four double-century grossers, followed by Prabhas (Baahubali 1 & 2) and Vijay (Mersal, Sarkar) who have two movies in the club.
This is the eleventh film from the south Indian industry to cross the $10 million mark at the global level. S Shankar’s directorial ‘2.0’ is still the highest grossing film of Rajinikanth’s career. ‘Petta’ is about to complete its third week in the theatres and it is still occupying a huge number of screens in the home state.
The film was the gift to Thalaivar’s fans on the occasion of Pongal, and Ajith starrer ‘Viswasam‘ was also released on the same day. It was a tough competition, which is still going on. While ‘Viswasam’ is little behind in the race at the international level, it is ahead in Tamil Nadu with about ₹10 crores.
Rajinikanth starrer is his third movie to cross 100 crore mark in Tamil Nadu. In the US the film has garnered $2.5 million.
‘Viswasam’ has collected ₹116 crore in the home state making it Ajith’s highest grosser in the region. It is also the actor’s first movie to enter 150 crore club.
In Chennai, the Ajith starrer has even surpassed Rajinikanth’s ‘Enthiran’ with a collection of ₹11.41 crore. It has become the ninth highest grosser movies of all time in the city.
