While Bollywood is a dream-place for thousands of aspirants out there, it is also a very difficult place to be in. A number of debates around the Hindi film industry have started in the recent times that include nepotism, sexism, ageism, and gender pay gap among others.

While Kangana Ranaut in a way started the debate around nepotism in Bollywood, several other actors and actresses have come forward and are speaking about the different downsides of Bollywood.

Rajkummar Rao, who is today considered as one of the finest actors of this generation, also opened up about one such thing that he does not like about the Hindi film industry and would like to change it.

During a recent interview, the Stree actor said everyone focuses too much on the box office numbers. That shouldn’t be the case. Instead, it should be about what kind of legacy we are leaving behind.

“Sometimes we really judge films on the basis of how much money they have made. Numbers play a big game here. That is something which at least the actors should not worry about. That is the only thing I would like to change,” the national award winning actor said.

He also supported his stance by giving the example of the classic The Godfather.

“Would you know How much money the Godfather has made but we remember The Godfather and we would remember it for the next 100 years. So it does not matter how much money the film is making at the box office. That is what I have always believed in that what is the legacy one is gonna leave behind.”

The actor also gave the example of his recent film Stree which not only crossed Rs 100 crore mark but was also appreciated by the critics and audience alike. “No one would remember Stree made Rs 150 crores. People would remember it because it is a cult film, one of the first horror comedies.”

Nonetheless, the national award winning actor agreed that doing good business is important for a film but that should not be the sole focus. “I want my films to make money so that we can get more work and can make exciting stories. But we should not only judge films on the basis of the numbers.”
