Starting with small roles to playing some of the most memorable comic characters, actor Rajpal Yadav has come a long way in his Bollywood journey. The actor received much acclaim in negative roles but later preferred to play comic roles and emerged as one of the best comic actors.

The actor saw a setback when he was sentenced to a three-month term in November 2018 for non repayment of Rs 5 crore, which his company took to produce a film in 2010. He came out of the Tihar jail in February this year and is now all set to get back to work.

Having spent 20 years in the Hindi film industry, Rajpal Yadav feels the current period is a very good time for art. He feels earlier there were films like his Main Meri Patni Aur Woh and Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon which neither fell in the art category nor commercial.

But today a new category of semi-commercial films has emerged and people who are working today are the luckiest.

While speaking to Hindustan Times, the actor said, “The era of semi-commercial films is here. We were waiting for this time. The luckiest people are those who have seen the international postcards as well as a pager and a cellphone. There is concept-oriented cinema and we consider ourselves lucky to work in these films, no matter what is the budget. If the concept is good, it will work. Kala jitni zyada bikharti hai, utna nikharti hai.”

He feels the field is open to experiments and the artists get their dues today. “Any number of experiments performed in the field of art are never enough. This is a very good time for art. Every talented artist gets his due now. The whole world is a small village now, the talent is coming from across the world,” he said.

Rajpal is gearing up for his upcoming films that include Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan starrer Coolie No. 1Time To Dance with Sooraj Pancholi and Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Bole Chudiyaan.
