Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s ‘Mere Pyare Prime Minister’ has finally got a release date. The film will now open on 15th March 2019. The film deals with the social issue of open defecation issue and sanitation problems in the country. It was screened at the Rome Film Festival representing not just India but Asia.

Director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra feels that the nation needs to build more toilets than mosques and temples. Rakeysh says that “I really don’t know what these films (like ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha‘ or ‘Mere Pyaare Prime Minister‘) will do, but they are very timely.”

The film is based on a single mother, whose eight-year-old son wants to make a toilet for her because he is really concerned about his mother’s safety when she goes out to defecate in the middle of the night, every night like lakhs of women does in India.

He found a solution to this problem is that he writes a letter to the Prime Minister of India and comes to Delhi with his two friends to deliver him the letter and get the toilet made. Rakyesh upcoming movie is based on the story of hope and inspiration. The movie will be based on the story of doing something about the situation that is around you rather than simply talking about the situation. Moreover. it is a story about taking responsibilities onto yourself rather than looking at the government for answers every time and pointing a figure at them.

Earlier in a statement, Rakyesh Mehra had said, “The stories are not about toilets. Stories are about human beings… So, I hope that as a human story, ‘Mere Pyaare…’ can reach out and touch hearts, and move you in a way which is very positive and thereby, the story becomes a part of collective consciousness, rather than what just might concern a selective consciousness.” He added, “I hope it becomes not just a talking point, but an awareness. Once there’s an awareness, something can be done about it. The voice of the film even tells you that rather than making mosques and temples, it’s more important to make toilets.”

‘Mere Pyare Prime Minister’ stars the national award-winning actress Anjali Patil, in the role of the mother. The project is bankrolled by Rakeysh’s wife Bharathi Mehra.
