Ranbir Kapoor is back with another great film ‘Shamshera’, where the buzz is that he might be playing a double role. Recently, Ranbir won the Best Actor Filmfare for ‘Sanju’. Ranbir currently has two big films in his kitty – Ayan Mukherji‘s ‘Brahmastra‘ and Karan Malhotra’s ‘Shamshera’.

If reports are to be believed, Ranbir will be seen in a double role in the dacoit-drama as he is currently shooting for both the roles simultaneously.

A source close to the development revealed, “The film revolves around a dacoit tribe that is fighting for its rights and independence from the British Raj. Apart from playing the protagonist, Ranbir might also be seen as the central character’s father. He has been shooting for both roles simultaneously. This is the first time in his 12-year-long career so far that Ranbir will play a double role”.

‘Shamshera’ also features Sanjay Dutt as an antagonist in the period-drama which is being bankrolled by Yash Raj Films. This film will mark Sanjay’s second collaboration with director Karan Malhotra as both of them have worked together in 2012 film ‘Agneepath’.

Talking about the same, Karan, told a daily earlier, “Shamshera is a ferocious and fearless character in the film. Therefore his nemesis, the villain had to be even more fierce and monumental in every aspect. Who better than Sanjay sir to give us that impact on screen?”

Sanjay added, “My father and Yash (Chopra) uncle were close friends and now that I’m doing my first YRF film, it is an extremely emotional moment for me. When I heard Karan’s idea to pit Ranbir against me, I thought it was brilliant. I look forward to shooting this incredibly exciting film, my second with the hugely-talented Karan Malhotra.”

‘Shamshera’ is slated to hit the theatres next year.
