This Christmas Ranveer Singh would have graced the silver screen as Kapil Dev with Kabir Khan’s 83. Reliance Entertainment backed film is however not going to release on 25th December. It is postponed due to the virus and is now going to release in the first quarter of 2021.

Disappointing isn’t it? Well, another Reliance Entertainment backed film, Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi was postponed earlier too. That film is also going to come out in the first quarter of 2021.

The CEO of Reliance Entertainment, Shibasish Sarkar talked to the Mirror about 83’s delay and said :

“Christmas is no longer a possibility as we won’t be able to set up a marketing campaign within a month. Also, the overseas markets are important for both films and some of them have shut again due to the second wave of COVID.”

If the pandemic would not have happened, the story for both the film’s release would have been different. Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi was slated to come out on 24th March while Ranveer Singh led 83 was to come out in April.

The pandemic left both the film’s release date in limbo. Anticipation was sky-high that 83 might release on Christmas after the government allowed the reopening of theatres on October 15, albeit with a 50 percent capacity. However, this possibility is dead too now.

On the other hand, Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari which is backed by Zee Studios is going to release on November 13. Shariq Patel of Zee Studios said that the makers don’t have any plans to release the film digitally. It stars Diljit Dosanjh, Manoj Bajpayee, and Fatima Sana Shaikh.

83 which stars Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev is about the Indian Cricket Team’s victory at the 1983 world cup. Deepika Padukone stars as Kapil Dev’s wife in the film.
