Actress Raveena Tandon who essayed the role of an avenging mother in ‘Maatr’ was honoured with the Best Critic award by the Dadasaheb Phalke Academy, for her performance in the film. The critics and the audience have touted Maatr as one of the most impactful and brutally honest films. In the film, Raveena’s character is a combination of bravery and tenderness which has garnered a lot of applauses and accolades.

Raveena says, “I had no clue I was getting the award. I was reading about Priyanka Chopra getting the award when I got their letter. I am glad that I waited for the right film and have got reviews saying I am top of the game. That kind of appreciation is better than why did she come back to do such a trashy film?” Adding that it’s a great time for actresses in the industry, the Raveena says, “I am proud that films like ‘Mom’, ‘Pink’ and ‘Maatr’ are being made today and we are not only making commercial entertainers but picking up topics that are relevant and get people to think. It’s a great time for women in Indian cinema as we are getting to choose relevant films that talk about society.”
