Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat seems to be drowning in a stream of controversies one after the other. After finally freeing itself from the wrath of the Karni Sena, and after finally making it to the theaters, the cast and crew of Padmaavat may have finally began breathing sighs of relief.

However, their relief was definitely temporary. The Malaysia’s National Film Censorship Board (LPF) , has gone ahead and banned the film in Malaysia, on the grounds that it touches sensitivities of Islam.

According to the LPF chairman, the storyline of Padmaavat is itself a matter of concern for the country as it is a muslim-majority nation.

“The storyline of the film touches on the sensitivities of Islam. That in itself is a matter of grave concern in Malaysia, a Muslim-majority country,”he said.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film Padmaava is based on 16th Century poet Malik Muhammad Jaysi’s poem, that talks about the ultimate sacrifice of the queen of Chittorgarh, in order to protect the dignity of herself and fellow Rajput woman and keep the valour of the Rajputs intact.

The film was slated for a release on 1 December 2017, but only released on 25 January 2018, due to revolts and protests against the film.
