The release date of the upcoming film Ujda Chaman that was coming on 8 November has been changed as the film got mired into a legal battle with Ayushmann Khurrana’s Bala which also has a similar story line.

Bala was initially supposed to be released in the second half of November but the makers shifted its schedule to hit screens a day before Ujda Chaman on November 7.

Now, it has been reported that the makers of Ujda Chaman have also rescheduled the release of their film. According to report on Bollywood Hungama, the film that stars Sunny Singh will now be released on 1 November.

The report quoted a source close to the developments as saying, “It was an obvious choice that the makers of Ujda Chaman would change the release date of their venture. Given the fact that Bala and Ujda Chaman are quite similar, it makes no sense to release both films in quick succession. Moving ahead the release date was a logical move.”

With Ujda Chaman releasing a week before Bala it remains to be seen whether the new release date will affect either of the film’s box office collections. Currently an official announcement on the new release date of the Sunny Singh starrer is awaited.

Meanwhile, it was reported earlier today that Abhishek Pathak, director of Ujda Chaman has filed a petition citing copyright infringement with the Supreme Court to stall the release of Bala.

The petition demands that matters of the obvious similarities between the storylines of Bala and Ujda Chaman be resolved before the Ayushmann Khurrana film is allowed to release on November 7.

There will be a court hearing on the issue on November 4, post which the release date of the film might change.
