A still from Shahid

It was three years back when I first watched Hansal Mehta’s film Shahid and this film changed my taste in cinema. I was totally in love with this film that I wanted everyone to know about Shahid. So what was so special in that film? Let’s relive ‘Shahid’ a 2013 film which starred Rajkummar Rao and Kay Kay Menon.

Shahid is a true story based on the life of a lawyer named Shahid Azmi and the beauty of this film lies within its simplicity which also marked some of the finest performances. A film which avoids melodramas and sensationalism, but sticks to its true plot. There are two scenes that I specifically love from the film and which were meant to create magic on screen.

A scene from Shahid

The first one is where Shahid reunites with his mother after spending almost five years in jail. A beautifully executed scene that required no dialogues at all, just the emotion flows and with light-hearted music of the song Beparwah, this scene is really heartwarming.

Another one is where Waar Saab (Kay Kay Menon) quotes Azmi, “Waqt Lagta Hai Par Ho Jaata Hai”. A dialogue that sums up the whole scenario of the Indian Judicial System. This film is really very well crafted.

If you haven’t watched the film yet, then it’s definitely a must-watch. Meanwhile, stay tuned to The Indian Wire for more such articles.
