The missing “and” in the title Laila Majnu speaks in itself more than the story does, the epic folklore has inspired a lot of stories be it real or reel all across the world. The 2018 film ‘Laila Majnu’ is no less than an epic story, a modern adaptation of the tale. Here, the real story begins while Qais (Avinash Tiwary) is in his revival mode after his long lasting wait which had a aim that someday, somewhere he might reunite again with his beloved Laila (Tripti Dimri). However circumstances bring them close again unexpectedly, but the “Wait” or the long time of him parting ways with Laila seems to have taken over his conscious mind, as the story takes a psychotic turn further.
Qais, after getting departed from Laila and his long wait gets him/ his mind towards a different way, where he forms his own world and lives with Laila happily, this happens in between the time of his departure from Laila till the time he reunites with her again. And yet after reuniting with her, he can’t get over his unconscious world wherein he resides happily with Laila, and this brings the story towards a heartbreaking Climax.
The 2018 film Laila Majnu directed by Sajid Ali acts as a revival in the Romantic Genre of Bollywood Industry if we consider the films made in a past few years under this genre. Also, a fact which shows the double standards of Indian audience that on one side we curse Nepotism that prevails in the industry but also on other side we don’t support the new talent in the industry like Avinash Tiwary and Tripti Dimri, the both of them deserve love and applause for their amazing performances in the film.
