Saif Ali Khan’s Laal Kaptaan looked like an interesting film from the trailer but it has failed to attract the audience to the theaters. The film opened to disappointing numbers at the box office. The first day collection of the film is only around Rs. 50 lakhs, according to a report by Box office India.
The film did not have any major clash from Bollywood and therefore it was expected that the film open to good performance. But its opening day collection is lower than Sonam Kapoor’s latest release, The Zoya Factor, which had opened at Rs 70 lakh last month.
Directed by Navdeep Singh, Laal Kaptaan is a revenge thriller. It tells the story of a Naga sadhu who is also a bounty hunter. It also stars Zoya Hussain, Deepak Dobriyal and Manav Vij. Sonakshi Sinha also has a cameo in the film.
On the other hand, Angelina Jolie starrer Maleficent: Mistress of Evil showed a slightly better performance. The film, that has Aishwarya Rai’s voice in its Hindi version, managed to collect around Rs. 70 lakhs on its first day.
Meanwhile, Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff’s War is inching towards Rs 300 crore. The film collected around Rs 2.75 crore on its third Friday. The total collections of the film have crossed Rs 290 crore in all languages.
Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh has confirmed that Siddharth Anand’s film is set to cross Rs 100 crore in the overseas market. With War still making money and a number of big releases lined up for Diwali, Laal Kaptaan has very bleak chances of attracting the enough footfall. Rajkumar Rao and Mouni Roy starrer Made In China, Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar starrer Saand ki Aankh, and multi-starrer Housefull 4 are all lined up for Diwali.
