Salman

The Forbes list of Top Highest 100 Paid Celebs for 2016-17 was announced few weeks back. Indian actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar made it to the list. While SRK was placed at the 65th position with an earning of $38 million, Salman was at the 71st spot with $37 million and Akshay at the 80th position with earning $35.5 million.

The magazine says “Khan continues to produce and star in films, earning top rupee for flicks such as ‘Sultan‘, which went on to become the second-highest grossing Bollywood movie of 2016. He remains one of India’s biggest stars, despite criminal controversies: In December 2015, the Mumbai High Court tossed out a conviction against Khan, who had been sentenced to five years in prison for a 2002 hit-and-run car incident which killed a homeless man.”

Now, in a recent interview, Salman was quizzed about the list, he said, “You know Shah Rukh and I were speaking last night, and we said, “Yeh kya (Forbes’ list) hai? Hamesha, we fall short of money to buy this or that…” I still haven’t been able to buy my house. I used to fall short by a few lakhs before, and then it became a crore, then few, and now I’m short by quite a few crores to buy my own place. And then this Forbes’ list!” “I don’t have that money. I seriously don’t have that money. I was going through it and going, “Yeh paise kahan hai, bhai? Kidhar?” When a film makes Rs 500 crore, only a very nominal amount from that comes to you. It’s just that your business is worth Rs 500 crore.”

When he was asked as to whether his business fetches him enough money, he said, “With Being Human clothing, we have a partner who takes a certain amount. From what comes to us, we pay taxes, and then it goes back to Being Human. The same thing with cycles, jewellery… Our business interest is towards what we can put into the charitable trust. We were already putting in a lot.”
