Bollywood’s chocolaty boy Saqib Saleem and Punjabi Rockstar Harrdy Sandhu joined the cast of ’83. According to the Mumbai Mirror report, Saqib will be seen as cricketer Mohinder Amarnath while Sandhu will portray Madan Lal on the screen.

Both the cricketers played important role in the world cup matches. Mohinder Amarnath was the Man of the Match in the semifinals and finals and Madan Lal took Sir Vivian Richards’ wicket during the final match against West Indies.

Both the actors have been connected to the game of cricket professionally in their early years. Saqib was a state level cricketer and played for the Delhi cricket team while Sandhu was a part of the Under-19 team for Punjab. The latter had to leave the sports due to an untimely elbow injury.

Harrdy Sandhu had earlier worked in two Punjabi movies, viz, ‘Yaaran Da Katchup’ and ‘Mera Mahi NRI’. Kabir Khan’s directorial will be his debut movie in Bollywood. Sandhu is the second Punjabi actor to make his debut with this film along with Ammy Virk. The singer is better known for his romantic songs, especially “Soch Na Sake”.

The film will go on floors in May this year and release in April next year. The film will be shot primarily in London and Scotland.

The film based on the life of former Indian cricket team captain Kapil Dev and 1983 world cup will also star Tahir Raj Bhasin as Sunil Gavaskar, YouTube sensation Sahil Khattar, Tamil actor Jiiva, Punjabi star Ammy Virk as Balwinder Sandhu, and others.

Actor Chirag Patil will be portraying his cricketer father Sandeep Patil on screen, which has never happened before.

Ranveer Singh will be seen portraying Kapil Dev and Pankaj Tripathi will be seen in the role of Man Singh, manager of the 1983 World Cup-winning cricket team.
