Mahasabha

The protectors of history have once again picked up cudgels against Bollywood. After the protests against Padmaavat, oppositions of Sarva Brahman Mahasabha have now risen up against Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, which stars Kangana Ranaut in the lead role.

The film is based on the life of Queen of Jhansi , Lakshmi Bai, who was a prominent freedom fighter. While the film makers have already clarified that the film is not a biopic, a Hindu group, ‘Sarva Brahman Mahasabha’, is questioning the alleged ‘distortion of facts’.

It was reported that the outfit’s President, Suresh Mishra alleged that the film distorts history regarding Rani Lakshmi Bai and depicts a love affair between her and a British man. “We learnt about it from our friends and acquaintances in various parts of Rajasthan, where some scenes of the film are being shot. The film is based on a foreigner’s book and it tries to dampen the Queen’s reputation ,” said Mishra. He also said that his organization is opposed to the distorted portrayal of historical figures for commercial motives.

If their concerns are not addressed, then the Brahman Mahasabha will strictly not allow the movie to be shot and will disrupt it’s shooting.

According to their website the Mahasabha aims to save the culture. It also wants to encourage and organise Brahmins and establish unity as well as to encourage meritorious students to get higher education in history and culture as well.

The Mahasabha had also hit the news when it joined the Sri Rajput Karni Sena for the protest against Padmaavat.
