A movie titled ‘A Billion Colour Story’, produced by Bollywood filmmaker Satish Kaushik and directed by Padmakumar Narasimhamurthy bagged the top prize at the London Indian Film Festival (LIFF). A film about Hindu-Muslim unity, which warmed the audience’s heart at the London Film Festival.

The filmmakers revealed their excitement to receive recognition on an International forum and said, ” It’s incredibly special for us that ‘A Billion Colour Story’ resonates with audiences across countries and continents. It continues to vindicate our faith that people and their hearts are the same across cultures and horizons. “

Apart from this, three Sunmark Icon Awards for South Asian directors who have made a global contribution to cinema were presented to directors Adoor Gopalakrishnan and Ashutosh Gowariker. British Asian LGBTQ+ activist and documentary filmmaker Pratibha Parmar also received the Sunmark Icon Awards for her contribution to spreading awareness about LGBTQ rights.

The Sunmark achievement award went to actress Anjali Patil for her first feature film, ‘Delhi in a Day’, which was showcased at the festival in 2011. LIFF’s annual Satyajit Ray Short Film Award went to ‘Papa’,directed by Siddharth Chauhan.

The festival, LIFF, is an annual affair held in the major cities of London and Birmingham with sponsorship from the Bagri Foundation. It began on June 22, closes on July 2 at the BFI Southbank and Birmingham at Cineworld Broad Street. Currently presenting in it’s 8th year, the festival showcases a selection of new and exciting cutting-edge independent films from India. The week-long celebration of Indian cinematography includes the awards ceremony which aims to recognise and pay tribute to special talent in the field, both legends and rising stars.
