The channel has given clarification of their TV show Savdhaan India host Sushant Singh’s exit from the show. According to a report in Mid-Day, the actor’s contract was already set to expire in January and it was not linked with his political views on the ongoing protests against the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

The report quoted a source as saying, “Sushant knew that his contract expires on January 15. He has completed the shoot of this season’s episodes. So, his tweet came as a surprise to us. There is no correlation between the protest and his exit.”

Singh, who has appeared in a number of films like Satya, The Legend of Bhagat Singh, Lipstick Under My Burkha, announced yesterday that he is no more a part of Savdhaan India . “And, my stint with Savdhaan India has ended,” he tweeted. Suggesting to his support for protests against CAA , a Twitterite asked if it was the price he was paying “for speaking the truth.” Singh replied, “A very small price my friend. How will I answer Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru?”

There have been reports coming up earlier this month that the show was undergoing a revamp. The same Mid-Day report cited a source that the makers are likely to bring in a new host. Singh has not been responding to the calls from the channel since the time he shared the tweet. The report also said that the channel officials are planning to take legal action against him for seeking mileage from the students’ agitation.

On the other hand, an interview with PTI yesterday suggests that Singh was not aware of his exit from the show and was informed only the night he returned from the protest. He said, “Contractually, it has to be a month’s notice, but to shoot during that time or not is up to them. I don’t want to link both these things. I went for the protest and then at night, I got the message that this will be my last day of shoot. Maybe it is a coincidence, maybe this was planned. I don’t want to speculate.”

Sushant Singh has been very vocal about his views against the controversial CAA. He is also one of those few from the film fraternity who condemned the police brutality against the students of Jamia Millia Islamia and showed solidarity with the students.
