Mahanati, the biopic created in the name of former actress Savitri had broken many box office records and received much critical acclaim in India since its release on the 19th of May. Mahanati had also been faring extremely well worldwide, grossing over 42 Crore INR merely ten days after its release. As of yet, Mahanati has crossed the 2 million USD mark throughout theatres in the United States. With the exception of Mahanati, only 10 other Tollywood movies have had a chance of being part of the 2 million USD club, with the most famous ones being the Baahubali franchise and Bharat Ane Nenu.
Nirvana Cinemas, the worldwide distribution company of Mahanati, uploaded a tweet on their official Twitter account on 19th May, confirming the 2 million gross accomplishment in the United States, and congratulating the cast of Mahanati for achieving such success. Nirvana Cinemas also assured the fans that Mahanati was still going strong in over 120 locations all over the world, with no decrease in the number of footfalls each day per theatre.
In a follow-up tweet, Nirvana Cinemas also confirmed that Mahanati had now officially entered the list of top ten highest grossing Telegu films in the USA. Mahanati has entered the chart led by Baahubali on the 11th rank, merely 10 days after its release. The movie had also been dubbed into Tamil, where it was released as Nadigaiyar Thilagam so that fans from all around the world could delve deeper into the life of Savitri, as portrayed by Keerthy Suresh. The movie was directed by Nag Ashwin and covered the most important spheres in Savitri’s life up until her death in 1981 following substance overdose.
