Time to see the world through 'feminine gaze': Azmi!

An Indian actress Shabana Azmi says that it is the time when people have started seeing the world through a feminine gaze. The actress was speaking ‘#F for Freedom’ during the Jio MAMI 19th Mumbai Film Festival.

Shabana says that she is delighted that MAMI this year is focusing on making the women work in Hindi cinema more visible and she thinks now it is a high time now and we should all see the world through the feminine gaze. The Jio Mami 19th Mumbai Festival Award was hosted by a brunch to discuss and inspire women about the equality and the quality of the movies and the evening was graced by the actresses like Manisha Koirala, Shabana Azmi, Kiran Rao, Anupama Chopra, Sayani Gupta, Kriti Sanon, Neha Dhupia and much more.

Actress Manisha Koirala has been the vocal about the gender equality and she said that she is very happy that the Jio MAMI is recognizing the women’s contribution. Neha Dhupia was also present at the event and she said that looking at the current situation things are not changing but a little initiative is required to make a change in the coming times. She feels after the release of 30-40 women-centric movie people have started assuming that the situations are changing but she says that it is not like the things are still the same.

The lady behind this initiative Kiran Rao has even expressed her main objective that was to inspire women and get them into the mainstream cinema, either in the front or maybe at the behind. Kiran says that the initiative was started approximately before 2 years ago and the main aim is to inspire all the female actors to be the part of the film industry and not just to tell the stories. They just want the female actors to join the female industry as writers, actors, technicians, creative arts and camera person with all this they can improve the condition of all the women in the country.
