Shah Rukh Khan has been away from films after the failure of his last venture ‘Zero.’ But he is now more focused in wearing the producer’s cap. He has produced the recently released Netlfix series ‘Bard of Blood’ under his banner, Red Chillies Entertainment.

In a recent interview, Shah Rukh talked about how the show came into being. Bilal Siddiqui, who is the writer of the series as well as the book its based on, was working in his company.

Shah Rukh had loved his book and wanted to produce it as a series; he offered Bilal to write the script.

When asked about how the massive reach of Netflix will help him, king Khan said: “If you have access to 190 countries and even if you consider that if 90 of them don’t watch it, 100 watch it, its a bigger market.”

Talking about the casting of Emraan Hashmi as Kabir Anand, Shah Rukh said, “I think he’s a wonderful actor and I like his zone of being extremely underplayed and easy when he does it. You know, one can tend to, in a conspiracy or a thriller, play-act a lot more but I think the ease with which he could have played it which he’s done in the series.”

Shah Rukh also elaborated how Emraan had the mix of being a tough guy and an intelligent actor, the mix which was required for the role.

On the question of what makes ‘Bard of Blood’ different from other Indian action-thrillers, Shah Rukh said that in India, there are not many action films done intelligent as they are mostly over the top.

He explains that the inherent quality of the series is the “relationship angle that permeates this whole action drama.”

The superstar then went on to praise everyone involved in the series, including the supporting actors like Kirti Kulhari, Shobhita Dhulipali and especially Vineet Singh, who according to him, did a “marvelous job.”

Concluding the interview, Shah Rukh especially mentioned Bilal and Mayank Tiwari’s written dialogues. “The nice part of the series is also I think, that it sounds very spoken.”

Directed by Ribhu Dasgupta, the Netflix original series premiered on 27 September, 2019 and has been receiving positive reviews.
