For meaningful cinema, we need freedom to express: Sharmila Tagore!

Legendary actress Sharmila Tagore says that makers of the movie need a freedom to express their views, their thoughts, and an open environment to come up with meaningful cinema. On Thursday, during the interaction with the audience at the 19th Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival in Mumbai, she shared her experience of balancing between the Bengali and Hindi Film industry like the movies of Satyajit Ray and Hrishikesh Mukherjee.

Sharmila says that the city Mumbai makes her understand the plurality and the diversity of their culture and at the same time it also tells us the commonality that exits within that. The moment of any actor they live for is between star sounds, to cut and every crew prepares them to live in that moment. She says that they need an open environment and an absolute freedom to express their thoughts with that and they would able to make a meaningful cinema.

The award ceremony was hosted by the actor Kunal Kapoor and Aditi Rao Hydari. The award was presented to Sharmila Tagore by the Superstar of the Bollywood Aamir Khan and Neeta Ambani. There were more actors who were present at the award ceremony like Amruta Fadnavis, John Madden, Konkona Sensharma, Kabir Khan, Rajkummar Rao, Kabir Khan and Hansal Mehta besides others.

The Chinese film director Chen Kiage was also awarded the Excellence In Cinema (International) Award. After getting an award he said that he admires Hindi cinema a lot and now it has become the cultural hub of India for many many years ago. He has developed an interest in the Hindi cinema and he thinks that he can have more cultural exchange through cinema form both the sides.

Moreover, Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Mukkabaaz’ was also screened in the award ceremony and it was the Asian premiere of the movie. The festival is even conducting a various sort of workshops on the movie reviews, children movies, writers and the distributor’s conversations among the various activities. An Italian actress Monica Bellucci will also be gracing the film festival on October 15. The Film Festival will be continued until October 18.
