After changing the release date a couple of times last month, the makers of the upcoming film Shikara have shared the motion poster of the film that tells the story of mass exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from valley during 1990s. The poster was shared on the official Twitter page of Vidhu Vinod Chopra where the makers also announced the release date of the trailer. The trailer of the film will be out on 7 January next year.

The thirty seven seconds long video starts with a gun fire and the crowd shouting in the background, “Kashmir hamara chhor do (Leave our Kashmir)”. The black screen then lights up and we see a large group of migrants sitting in an unspecified place. A voice over says, “19 January 1990. Hum hazaron Kashmiri panditon ko Kashmir chhorkar bhagna pada. 19 January 2020, tees saal baad hamari kahani kahi jayegi. (We Kashmiri Pandits had flee away from our Kashmir on 19 January 1990. Our story will be told after thirty years on 19 January 2019).”

The official synopsis describes Shikara as “the story of resilience in the face of insurmountable odds. It’s also the story of a love that remains unextinguished through 30 years of exile. A timeless love story in the worst of times.”

The cast of the film has not been revealed yet. It was earlier reported that new faces were introduced in the film while some local actors will also feature.

The film also marks the return of Chopra to director’s chair in Bollywood after over a decade. His last Hindi directorial venture Eklavya bombed badly at the box office. In 2015 he directed a Hollywood film Broken Horses featuring Vincent D’Onofrio that also turned out to be a disaster.

Directed and edited by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Shikara is produced by Chopra in association with Fox Star Studios. It is scheduled to be released on 7 February next year.
