‘Shikara’ trailer: Vidhu Vinod Chopra brings the pain of Kashmiri Pandits on big screen

After unveiling the poster earlier today, the makers of the upcoming film Shikara have finally released the film’s trailer just a while ago. The two minutes and thirty four seconds long video features the lead actors Sadia as Shanti Dhar and Aadil Dhar as Shiv Kumar Dhar, both making their debut in the upcoming film.

The trailer starts with a romantic scene where both the actors are reading poetry. They suddenly see through their window a house burning. We then see riots unfolding leading to the exodus of several thousands of Kashmiri Pandits from the valley. It also shows the refugee camps and the condition in which the migrants had to live in.

The makers took to the official Twitter handle of Vidhu Vinod Chopra Films to share the trailer and wrote, “More than 4,00,000 Kashmiri Pandits lost their homes and became refugees in their own country. Three decades later, watch their story unfold. Shikara trailer out now.”

The official synopsis describes Shikara as “the story of resilience in the face of insurmountable odds. It’s also the story of a love that remains unextinguished through 30 years of exile. A timeless love story in the worst of times.”

The film  marks the return of Vidhu Vinod Chopra to director’s chair in Bollywood after over a decade. His last Hindi directorial venture Eklavya bombed badly at the box office. In 2015 he directed a Hollywood film Broken Horses featuring Vincent D’Onofrio that also turned out to be a disaster.

Directed and edited by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Shikara is produced by Chopra in association with Fox Star Studios. It is scheduled to be released on 7 February next year.
