There was a time when there was a clear boundary between film stars and the actors of the small screen. But today film actors are also moving to small screen with the arrival of digital platforms. And that is apparently a conscious decision on their part to find quality work.
While the phenomenon has been there for sometime in Hollywood, the trend is gradually gaining momentum in India. With the mainstream actors like Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Manoj Bajpayee, Emraan Hashmi and others doing work for OTT platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime, it seems the trend will only rise in the coming times.
While some stars see future in the online streaming platforms, at the same time there some mainstream actors who have explicitly expressed their interest of not going towards online platforms. One such star is Sidharth Malhotra who is currently gearing up for his upcoming film Marjaavaan.
The Student Of The Year actor wants to work in different genres and he is getting them in the films therefore the digital space does not interest him right now.
“At the moment, it doesn’t interest me. As an actor, I want to experiment with different genres and when I’m already getting enough variety in the movies, why look elsewhere,” he told Mumbai Mirror.
Speaking about the scale of online platforms, the actor said, “Even the numbers on the digital platforms aren’t as big in India as compared to other countries. It’ll take a few more years for them to increase.”
Actors like Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt have also explicitly said in the past that they do not to move to digital space. While Ranbir also advised other big film stars to avoid this transition, Alia cited dates as the reason for not being able to work in digital space.
Meanwhile, Sidharth will next be seen in the upcoming film Marjaavaan that is coming out 15 November. Directed by Milap Zaveri, the film is an action drama that stars Riteish Deshmukh, Sidharth Malhotra, Tara Sutaria and Rakul Preet Singh in the lead roles.
