Famous actress Sonam Kapoor is named People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India’s Person of the Year for 2018 for her contribution towards animal welfare. She is a vegan and not only she ticks off the benefits of it every now and then but also requests others to adopt a vegan diet.
Sonam started a business of fashion brands Rheson with her sister Rhea. She keeps animal skin out of the handbag line.
PETA India Associate Director Sachin Bangera said in a statement, “Whether she’s enjoying vibrant vegan meals or rallying her fans to do their part to stop animal suffering, Sonam Kapoor never hesitates to help animals any way she can,”
“We encourage everyone to take a page out of her book and live with compassion and respect for all beings,” he added.
In 2016, PETA India named Sonam as the Hottest Vegetarian Celebrity and she even earned the Compassionate Business Award for her cruelty-free handbags.
The actress urged Minister of Environment, Forests and Climate Change to continue the ban on animal dissection in classes for university life science and zoology students.
She requested Maharashtra government to ban glass-coated manja, which can entangle and kill birds. She even donated “kind kites” to children to help prevent injuries from manja.
