Disney’s space epic film Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker has ended the year with a bang, grossing a total of $724.8 million globally, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The film, directed by J.J. Abrams, has earned an estimated sum of $135 million in the five-day holiday, making a total of $361.8 million in North America.
The final film in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, it is heading towards reaching the $1 billion mark which does not seem to be un-achievable.
Rise of Skywalkers had opened to twenty percent behind its predecessor film Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but quickly gained momentum in the holiday week. It has topped the box-office chart internationally with a collection of $263 million.
On the other hand, Sony’s action adventure film Jumanji: The Next Level has a domestic tally of $175.5 million so far, with a worldwide collection of $771.5 million.
Greta Gerwig-directed Little Women has so far minted $30 million and had a nearly 70 percent of women audience.
Tom Hooper’s musical fantasy film Cats has proved to be a box-office bomb, with a collection of $38.4 million against a massive production budget of $100 million. It has also met with mostly negative reviews so far for its animation and story line.
