Disney’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalkers has stormed the box-office in overseas, grossing $198 million as per reports by Variety

The J.J. Abrams-directed film had the biggest opening in the United Kingdom grossing $26.8 million, followed by Germany ($21.8 million), France ($15.2 million) and Japan ($14.6 million). However, it has failed to impress the Chinese audience where it opened with a meager $12.1 million. In North America, the space epic collected $176 million, thus making a total of $374 million in total. 

The Rise of Skywalkers is the final film in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, which includes The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. Both the previous ones had collected $2 billion and $1.3 billion respectively.

Tom Hooper’s musical fantasy Cats, another release of the week, has tanked at the box-office with a collection of $10.9 million so far; it was made on an approx budget of $100 million. The film has widely received negative reviews. 

Sony’s adventure flick Jumanji: The Next Level, has earned $312 million at the box-office globally. 

The Rise of Skywalkers, which was released theatrically on 20 December, has met with mixed critical response, with criticism towards the plot and pacing.
