‘Street Dancer 3D’ director Remo D’Souza: ‘Illegal Weapon’ is a perfect song to introduce Shraddha Kapoor’s character

After remaking Prabhudeva’s iconic song Muqabla, the makers of upcoming film Street Dancer 3D, which stars Shraddha Kapoor and Varun Dhawan, went on to remix Jasmine Sandlas (who sang Yaar Na Miley in Salman Khan’s Kick) and Garry Sandhu’s Punjabi track Illegal Weapon

The new version is titled Illegal Weapon 2.0 and will be used during Kapoor’s entry in the film that also features Prabhudeva and Nora Fatehi.

Remo D’Souza, who has directed the film, told Mid-Day, “In the film, the two actors belong to different dance groups that keep competing against each other on the streets. Illegal weapon 2.0 has the two groups meeting for the first time.”

The choreographer turned director also revealed that the team was looking for a fast-paced song when Bhushan Kumar suggested this song. “We realised it could be a perfect song to introduce Shraddha’s character. We have retained the music and hook line, but have changed the lyrics. We have pumped up the groove and added a street mix vibe to the track,” he told the publication.

D’Souza has previously worked with Kapoor and Dhawan in 2015 dance drama film ABCD 2. On reuniting with the pair, he said,”In the four years (since ABCD 2), Varun and Shraddha have grown so much as actors and dancers. It felt like I was directing a different lead pair, this time around. I had to make sure that we don’t look repetitive. The pressure was on them as well, to come up with something different.”

Produced by Bhushan Kumar, Divya Khosla Kumar, Krishan Kumar and Lizelle D’Souza, Street Dancer 3D is scheduled to be released on 24 January.
