Bollywood filmmaker Sudhir Mishra was one of the first few Bollywood personalities to express his solidarity with thousands of students protesting against the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) across the nation. Taking a step further, the National Award winning director has now announced the remake of his first film Yeh Woh Manzil Toh Nahin

He cited the ongoing students-led protests that motivated him to take the decision. He took to his Twitter account to make announcement and wrote, “I am going to remake my first film ! The students of today are the trigger. It won’t be exactly the same though.”

Released in 1987, Yeh Woh Manzil Toh Nahin was written by Mishra himself and got him a National Award for Best Debut Film of a Director. The film tells the story of three men reminiscing about the days of their student activism and failures.

The film featured actors like Manohar Singh, Habib Tanvir, B. M. Shah, Pankaj Kapur, Sushmita Mukherjee and Naseeruddin Shah. There is no word on the cast of the remake yet but it would be interesting to see which actors Mishra would cast to step into the shoes of such distinguished actors.

Sudhir Mishra has been very vocal about expressing his solidarity with the students in the ongoing nationwide protests. When a number of film personalities came out in support, he warned that the movement should not be hijacked by the celebrities.

Taking to his Twitter account, he wrote, “Please don’t make the protests into a celebrity march. It has been led by people from all walks of life, especially students and young. The celebrities should walk behind the people. The young should lead the old.”

He further wrote in a subsequent tweet, “The March should be about the idea, about a view of India and not about celebrities talking about the obvious as if they invented it. They should just follow and learn.”
