Poster boys movie review

Sunny DeolBobby Deol, and Shreyas Talpade‘s most awaited movie ‘Poster Boys‘ has finally released today. The movie is directed by Shreyas Talpade himself. The movie is a remake of the 2014 Marathi hit Poshter Boyz which Shreyas had produced and acted in. The movie is inspired by the real life incident about three coolies who found their pictures on a vasectomy poster.

The movie ‘Poster Boys’ was earlier produced in Marathi. Now, three laters producer-turned-debut director Shreyas directed the movie under the same title along with Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol. The movie is said to be a rib tickling comedy movie but if we look at the current Bollywood trend than the movie is highly preachy.

The movie starts with Jagaavar Chaudhary ( the character played by Sunny Deol) and his wife Sonali Kulkarni live in a small village. Jagaavar is planning to get her sister;s wedding with her love Vinay Sharma (the character played by Bobby Deol). Vinay played the role of a shy school teacher and he is from a middle-class family and he lives with his wife and along with his two daughters. Shreyas Talpade played the character of Arjun Singh, he is in love with his girlfriend Ria, but Ria’s family is against of their relationship.

These three men fall into trouble when mysteriously three of them appears on the poster promoting vasectomy and during the rest of the movie they fight against the system to prove their innocence. The comic punches in the film are too good and this is the first when Shreyas handles such a preachy issue and that too in a humorous way. Some of the scenes in the movie are very funny like ‘tareek pe tareek’ and ‘jab yeh dhai kilo ka hath padhta hai to aadmi uthta nahin, uth jata hai’ and the ‘Soldier Soldier’ ringtone of Bobby Deol adds more fun to the film. The dialogues in the first half are comical, crisp and interesting, but in the second half three men set out to fight against the government and that makes the movie too dramatic.

By taking the help of the media they unnecessarily sensationalise the topic which is very far away from the reality and it is just not digestible when the CM of a state take relevant action after a few seconds of the press conference. The makers have placed the movie as a comedy film and not a movie with a message just like a recently released movie titled “Toilet: Ek Prem Katha”. However, the film is made at a low production cost and it is primarily meant for small town audiences and not for the multiplexes.

A movie will change a lot when it is remade in any other language and it will become questionable for the makers to make the film for a certain set of audience. However, the Marathi version of the movie was already a blockbuster and the Hindi version of the movie is too enjoyable in bits and pieces.

The movie ‘Poster Boys’ marks the fifth collaboration of Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol together. Sunny Deol’s role in the movie is good enough to watch even Shreyas is a comedy expert and earlier he has done roles like this with an easy conviction. Bobby Deol is the one who stands out his transformation in the movie is superb from a stylish gentleman to a shy Hindi teacher with a moustache in this one is too good. His dialogues are in pure Hindi and that will make you laugh through out the movie.

So overall, the movie ‘Poster Boys’ can be watched just to lighten your mood this weekend but in the end be ready for some social awakening.
