not politicians, 'let CBFC do its job' of passing film!

The attempt to stall and ban the release of the much-awaited Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘s masterpiece Padmavati finally came to end with chief justice Dipak Misra ordering the states to screen the movie across theatres. The bitter controversy continues to wreak havoc across the states of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh with Rajput groups vandalizing and disrupting peace demanding that the movie is disrespectful to the culture.

The states urged the officials to ban the release but justice Dipak Misra and his team clearly stood to their word and set a clear statement that an order is an order and is to be compiled by everyone. Karni Sena an organization of the Rajput community claimed that the project distorts the history and sacrifice of Rani Padmavati with false information being screened worldwide. Lokendra Singh Kalvi, founder of the Karni Sena went on to say “We will not allow distorted facts to be shown in the film at any cost and will see to it that the film is not screened in half of India,”.

They also threatened to attack actress Deepika Padukone who plays Rani Padmavati in the movie. To this, the court’s response was blunt and short saying that if you create trouble and you will by virtue of it come to court. The judges also pointed out that a team of experts was made to review and followed by which the censor board was assigned to certify it. The Uttar Pradesh government of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had written to the Centre saying that the release of the film could pose a law and order problem for the state to which Cheif justice strongly expressed that the states should be responsible for their own peace.

The initial date of release was 1st December and after the controversies, the film is finally to be screened on 25th January with a few cuts and changes after being cleared by the CBFC.The epic is based on the 13th century battle between Maharaja Ratan Singh played by Shahid Kapoor and his army of Mewar and Sultan Alauddin Khilji of Delhi played by Ranveer Singh. And Rani Padmini being portrayed by Deepika Padukone.
