It is not a wise thing to spread images of a deceased person around on Social Media. Doesn’t matter whether he/she was a famous personality or not. The Maharashtra Cyber Police Department is countering exactly this problem after the demise of actor, Sushant Singh Rajput yesterday.
Several pictures of the actor lying on his bed started circulating on social media platforms such as Whatsapp, Facebook, TikTok, Instagram and others. The Cyber Department posted a series of tweets, informing public that circulating his photos would invite legal action towards them.
The department described this as a ‘disturbing trend’ and ‘bad in taste’. They urged people to delete the images if they have shared it already.Further, they deemed it as against legal and court guidelines and liable for a legal action.

A disturbing trend has been observed on Social Media platforms by Maharashtra Cyber that pictures of deceased actor Shri. Sushant Singh Rajput are being circulated, which are disturbing and in bad taste. (1/n)

It is emphasised that circulation of such pictures is against legal guidelines and court directions, and are liable to invite legal action. ⁰(2/n)

Maharashtra Cyber exhorts and directs all netizens to refrain from circulating the aforesaid pictures. The pictures already circulated should be deleted henceforth. (3/n)

Earlier too, the cyber cyber police had issued a notice against posting such images on social media platforms. A notice under section 149 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) was issued by them and stated that circulation of such offensive posts was an offense under the “Information Technology Act, IPC and other laws of the land”.
Sushant Sing Rajput, who committed suicide yesterday, was 34 years old.
