Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar starrer ‘Womaniya’ which was shelved due to lack of funds has been renamed and revived. The film is now titled ‘Saand Ki Aankh’ and the shooting of the same will be commenced from next week.

The film will be directed by Tushar Hiranandani who is a writer making his directorial debut and produced by Reliance Entertainment, Anurag Kashyap, and Nidhi Parmar. ‘Saand Ki Aankh’ is inspired by world’s oldest sharpshooters, Prakashi, and Chandro Tomar, both senior citizens, living in Baghpat district of Uttar Pradesh.

Movie critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the news of the film’s commencement and the changed name.

After the case of sexual assault against the co-owner Vikas Bahl, Phantom Films announced its dissolution. Post Phantom Anurag found it difficult to go ahead with the film, due to increasing budget. Therefore, the film was shelved.

‘Womaniya’ is a biopic on UP-based octogenarian sharpshooters Chandro and Prakashi Tomar. Bhumi and Taapsee were to prep for a month, following the preparation the movie was to be shot Uttar Pradesh.

The movie required antique weapons that were proving to be expensive. Even after Kashyap managed to find the support from producers Shibasish Sarkar and Nidhi Parmar. The makers were breaching the budget. Also, given the indefinite delay, the actors eventually moved on to other projects.

Chandro Tomar, an 87-year-old female Jat shooter is also known as “Shooter Dadi” and is the pride of the district. Mother of eight and grandmother of 15, Tomar has won 25 national championships throughout India.
