The trend of biopic is gaining momentum in Bollywood. While Parineeti Chopra has been the talk of town for her upcoming film on the life of badminton player Saina Nehwal, we are likely to have a biopic on another sportswoman.

According to online reports, Viacom 18 is planning to make a film on the life Indian Women’s Cricket team’s ex-captain Mithali Raj. The buzz is also there that Taapsee Pannu will be stepping into the shoes of the cricketer.

Even though the director has not been locked for the same, if it all falls in place, the project will go on the floors by mid-2020 for an early 2021 release.

Last year, PTI had asked Taapsee about Mithali Raj biopic. To which, the Badla actress had replied, “The script is not in place so it’s too early to talk about it. Right now, they are collecting material and the script has not been written yet. If they offer me, I will be very happy. I really want to do a sports biopic.”

Mithali is the highest run-scorer in women’s international cricket and the only woman cricketer to surpass the 6,000 run mark in ODIs.

It has been raining biopics in Bollywood. While this year saw The Accidental Prime Minister, Manikarnikaa, Super 30, Thackeray, and others, the next year has quite a number of biographical dramas – Vidya Balan starrer Shakuntala Devi, Kabir Khan’s ’83, Meghna Gulzar’s Chhapaak, Dharma Productions’ Gunjan Saxena- The Kargil GirlShershaah on Captain Vikram Batra, Vicky Kaushal as Field Marshall Sam Manekshaw and Parineeti Chopra as badminton player Saina Nehwa are some of the most awaited biopics.

On the workfront, Tapsee has been receiving wide acclaim for her recent release Saand Ki Aankh. She is also doing Anubhav Sinha’s Thappad where she will be seen sharing screen space with Arjun Kapoor, Manoj Pahwa, Sharman Joshi and Pavail Gulati.
