The online quarrel between Taapsee Pannu and Kangana Ranaut’s sister Rangoli is not new. It goes back to the recent times when Taapsee wrote a letter in reponse to the controversy around her and Bhumi playing characters double their age in Saand Ki Aaankh.

The controversy was that ageism should be fought against in the industry and that older actresses should have been signed for the film. Taapsee responded to this by saying that she is against ageism but as an actor she likes to do challenging roles like other senior actors have done in the past.

Rangoli attacked Taapsee and had tweeted, “Acting ka A bhi nahin aata & comparing urself to all legends. Bhai ja thodi acting seekh le tacky silver hair & sasta prosthetic won’t make u an actor, wat about body language f a 60 year old? Where is the aged voice?Longing fr gone youth in one’s eyes?Where is acting, So funny!(sic)”

In an interview to SpotboyE, Taapsee was asked about Rangoli’s comment. The Badla actress said, “Haan nahi aata. Phir bhi picturein mil rahi hain, kya karun? We should question the directors, why are they coming to me? I am sorry but I have signed some 4 films, so you will have to bear with me.”

Her co-star Bhumi Pednekar also added to Taapsee’ sharp reply and said, “True, audiences are also silly na?”

The whole controversy started around the release of Saand Ki Aaankh trailer. A fan tweeted, “I love @bhumipednekar and @taapsee but I kinda wish older actors were cast in these roles. Could you imagine @Neenagupta001 and @AzmiShabana or Jaya Bachchan? #SaandKiAankh”

Replying to the tweet Neena Gupta had said, “Yes I was just thinking about this hamari umar ke role toe kamsekam humse kara lo bhai” Rangoli told Neena Gupta that Kangana Ranaut was initially offered the role in the film but she refused and suggested Neena Gupta’s name.

“Neena ji Kangana was offered this movie and she loved the true story of Grandmom’s achievements she suggested yours and Ramya Krishnan ma’am’s name for lead roles but these men can’t remove deeply rooted sexism from their filthy brains,” she tweeted.
