Vivek Agnihotri‘s upcoming film ‘The Tashkent Files’ is based on the mysterious death of India’s second Prime Minister, Lal Bahadur Shastri. The film is all set to hit the theatres on April 12. Today, the makers of the film have released the first trailer of the film which aims to uncover the truth behind the former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri’s mysterious death.

Trade analyst and film critic, Taran Adarsh took to his Twitter to share the new trailer of ‘The Tashkent Files’ and wrote, “Trailer of #TheTashkentFiles… Directed by Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri… 12 April 2019 release… #TheTashkentFilesTrailer

The film is produced by Pranay Chokshi, Sharad Patel, Vivek Agnihotri, and Anuya Ritesh Kudecha.

The film also features actors like Mithun ChakrabortyNaseeruddin Shah, Shweta Basu, Pankaj Tripathi, Vinay Pathak, Mandira Bedi, Pallavi Joshi, Ankur Rathee and Prakash Belawadi in important roles. Recently, director Vivek Agnihotri has said only an “idiot or a guilty person” can call the movie propaganda and that it is about a “citizen’s right to truth”.

Earlier in an interview with PTI, Agnihotri said, ”On January 10, 1966, Shastri had signed the Tashkent Agreement and hours later he died. A death mystery unsolved to date. Was it a heart attack or poison? The truth of the biggest coverup has been denied to his family and us. Immediately after his death, the family members of Shastri officially requested a post-mortem to the then acting Prime Minister Gulzarilal Nanda, but to no avail.”
