In these trying times of a global pandemic, Tenet has so far collected $146 million worldwide. During the weekend, it earned $20 million in the North American market, which is a decent collection in these times. Though the film has neared $150 million at the box office, it is still not enough for it.

The Christopher Nolan directed espionage thriller needs to earn at the least $650 million if it needs to break even. While 70% of theatres are running in the US, with a capacity of 50%, these are difficult times for films. Audiences are reluctant to go to movie theatres so soon, which reflects in the box office collection of Tenet.

Director, Christopher Nolan, who is known for making films such as The Dark Knight Trilogy, Interstellar, Inception is a big name. His name is enough to pull the audiences to theatres but COVID-19 has proved it to be otherwise.

Everyone wants to stay safe first, even though theatres have taken the utmost precautions. Warner Bros, the studio behind the film have said that the film’s legs will count since the current time has made it a marathon and not a sprint.

There is a cause for concern for Warner Bros and Nolan, as theatres slowly are reopening, and with the release of new films, its box office collection is sure to get challenged. Disney’s Mulan, which will release later will prove to be a formidable competitor for Tenet.

John David Washington stars in the lead role in Tenet, as a man tasked to save the world. Apart from him, the film also stars Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Kenneth Branagh, Michael Caine, and Dimple Kapadia.

The film has received good reviews from critics and the audience who have got the chance to watch the film. But can good reviews help a film to become successful during a pandemic? Well, only time will tell. The road ahead for the film looks difficult as of now.

While there is still a lot of time for the film to earn money, its success surely hangs in the balance.
