Nawazuddin Siddiqui has clarified that the second part of the film Thackeray has not been shelved and work is being done on the script.

The biopic of Balasaheb Thackeray starring Nawazuddin in the titular role was a highly awaited film that came out in January this year. Even before the release of the film, producer Sanjay Raut had announced that the film would have a second part.

While the biopic titled Thackeray brought wide acclaim to Nawazuddin for his performance, the film itself received mixed response. There were reports doing the rounds that the sequel of Abhijit Panse-directed venture had been shelved due to the lukewarm response of the first film.

Clarifying the rumours about the cancellation of the project Nawazuddin said, “The initial idea was to make the film in two parts, so, the question of shelving it doesn’t arise at all. Also, the first film received a good response. The script is currently being worked on. I had spoken to Sanjay Raut a few months ago and he assured me that the second part will be made.”

However, the Gangs of Wasseypur actor did not specify the timeline of the project. “They [the makers] were busy with the elections, and I am tied up with my movies. Playing the character would require me to get into the mould again. So, it will take some time before we set the ball rolling,” he said.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui is currently promoting his upcoming film Motichoor Chaknachoor where he will be seen opposite Athiya Shetty. The film directed by Debamitra Biswal and produced by Rajiv and Kiran Bhatia is scheduled to be released on 15 November this year.
