Farhan Akhtar and Annu Kapoor starrer ‘The Fakir of Venice’ will finally release on January 18, 2019- a decade after it was made. The film is directed by Anand Surapur. The film was presented as “Opening Night Film” on April 21, 2009, during the Annual Indian Film Festival in Los Angeles.

Talking about the delay the film’s director told IANS, “It was purely attributed to production issues. Since the last two years, we were working and sorting out internal issues and let A.R Rahman Sir create good music for the film.”

“It’s a story based on human behavior. A story of the past, the present, and the future. The film revolves around the two faces of every human which primarily comes out due to situations, needs, goals and wants.” he said.

He added, “Every viewer will relate to the characters of the film and go back with a sense of self-reflection and a feeling of trying to be a better human being. It’s a con performed by two Indian men who travel to Venice for conning the western art world for making quick bucks. We are targeting (to release it on) about 300-400 screens.”

The film’s producer Punit Desai revealed his plans of releasing the film in international markets. He said, “We have good interest and traction from various broadcast platforms like digital, satellite etc. It has turned out to be a practical and fruitful business venture for us.”

The film is inspired by a pretty bizarre incident of Filmmaker Homi Adajania’s life, who directed ‘Cocktail’ and ‘Finding Fanny’. Homi wrote an article “fakir” in a magazine, which caught Anand’s attention. He called Homi and stated his desire to turn the article into a movie. Homi sold the rights to the filmmaker and forgot about it until last year when he was shown the movie.
