‘The Tashkent Files’ holds strong in second weekend, earns total ₹4.75 crores

Vivek Agnihotri‘s film ‘The Tashkent Files’ is based on the mysterious death of India’s second Prime Minister, Lal Bahadur Shastri. The film which hit the theatres on April 12, is in its second weekend and has grossed ₹4.75 crores till date.

The film which started slow, gained momentum over the first weekend and held strong during weekdays. In spite of being a medium budget movie and limited screens and shows numbers, the film seems to do good and holding strong.

Film critic and biz analyst Taran Adarsh shared the box office figures of ‘The Tashkent Files’ and wrote, “#TheTashkentFiles goes from strength to strength… Despite limited showcasing [160 screens/limited shows/limited centers], the numbers show an upturn on [second] Sat… Biz should grow further on [second] Sun… [Week 2] Fri 50 lakhs, Sat 75 lakhs. Total: ₹ 4.75 cr. India biz.”

Vivek Agnihotri’s film aims to uncover the truth behind the former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri’s mysterious death.

The film is produced by Pranay Chokshi, Sharad Patel, Vivek Agnihotri, and Anuya Ritesh Kudecha.

The film also features actors like Mithun ChakrabortyNaseeruddin Shah, Shweta Basu, Pankaj Tripathi, Vinay Pathak, Mandira Bedi, Pallavi Joshi, Ankur Rathee and Prakash Belawadi in important roles. Recently, director Vivek Agnihotri has said only an “idiot or a guilty person” can call the movie propaganda and that it is about a “citizen’s right to truth”.
