After losing numbers to Indian Box Office a special edition of ‘Thugs Of Hindostan‘ was released in China this week, where it started slow, compared to Aamir Khan’s past releases. The film collected Rs 10.67 crore on its first day.
Aamir edited the movie himself and significant changes have been made. In contrast to the Indian version, the Chinese version of the movie is different. It is 44 minutes shorter and various scenes have been edited frame-by-frame. Khan added, removed and re-adjusted the story making it a more compact and straightforward plot.
To take advantage of his popularity in China, Khan has cut Amitabh and Sana’s scene and extended his by adding the deleted scenes from the original shoot, and which never made it to Indian theatres.
Aamir’s prior releases, ‘Dangal‘ and ‘Secret Superstar‘, were a blockbuster in China and did a great business in the country. Biz analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted about the film’s business in China. He wrote, “Aamir Khan is a big draw in #China and his last two films [#Dangal, #SecretSuperstar] have done stupendous biz there… Yet, #ThugsOfHindostan has had a shockingly low start in #China…”

Set in the backdrop of the 17th century, the film is based on a group of Thugs who seeks freedom from Britishers. Their head Khudabaksh (Amitabh Bachchan) along with Zafira Baig (Fatima Sana Shaikh) is seeking revenge from John Clive who killed king Mirza Sikander Baig.
The film was claimed to be the most expensive Hindi film of all times but unexpectedly, did not do well at the Indian Box Office.
