Imtiaz Ali’s Highway chronicles the life experiences of a young girl Veera, who belongs to a conservative family. The movie narrates the incident of her life when she gets abducted by a criminal, Mahabir for ransom. Later Veera discovers that she has a more liberating and satisfactory life out here. She expresses her childhood trauma of being molested by one of her trusted family members, which moulds Mahabir’s attitude towards her. The movie portrays the life of a woman who escapes from abuse in her hall of ivory and cherishes the imperfect clement world in front of her.

Vishal Bahl’s Queen showcases the transformation of a shy homely girl into an independent and free-spirited woman. The story revolves around Rani, who travels alone for her honeymoon since his fiance calls off the wedding. Despite grief and agony, she bucks herself up for a solo trip to Paris. She makes friends, gain new experiences, parties, juggle around the city and much more. Rani returns to India with an assertive and confident attitude. ‘Queen’ elucidates that as an individual, regardless of gender, you are the master of your fate. Parched takes you into an intense and provocative territory. A story of three protagonists who are victims of orthodox traditions in the backward regions of India. A widow, Rani (Tannishtha), a childless woman, Lajjo (Radhika) and a sex worker, Bijli (Surveen), suffer from everyday physical abuse and social apathy from their families and people around them. Leena Yadav’s Parched delineates the strong women celebrating fights and struggles against the unjust system and finally emerging as winners in the end.

A dream of a maid, Chanda to see her daughter, Apu shine bright in future. The film depicts the struggles faced by Chanda to get her daughter enrolled in school for her bright future. On contrary, Appu is an immature teenager who doesn’t value her mother’s sacrifices. The story centres around the sweet-bitter relationship of the duo. The movie conveys a message that you should believe in your dreams, cherish and protect them because nobody can take them away from you. If one has the enthusiasm to achieve, they will surely do.

Young Insia aspires to become a singer, but she is afraid of her conservative father who wants her to indulge in household chores. Seeing her mother suffer every day in a troubled and violent marriage, she dares to pursue her dream to free her mother from an unhappy marriage. Secret Superstar illustrates the journey of a passionate singer who has the diligence and zeal towards her dream and went to the extreme verge of circumstances to achieve it.
